Djokovic invests millions in Viennese “waterdrop” – enjoyment

The (not undisputed) tennis star Novak Djokovic invests millions in the Viennese company “waterdrop” and declares war on plastic bottles.

Tennis icon Serena Williams has already become famous for her investments in companies. But she is not the only one. Many athletes are thinking about life after their careers and are looking for investment opportunities. However, it should be clear that the millions in income of the sports stars are not the result of building savers.

waterdrop revolutionizes the “microdrinks” market

Founded in 2016 by Martin Murray, Christoph Hermann and Henry Murray, waterdrop developed small, dissolvable tabs that flavor water and encourage people to drink more.

Last year, waterdrop even hoarded 60 million euros from investors in order to become a leading provider and developed, among other things, an app that reminds you to drink and is connected to a chip in the bottle cap.

“No more plastic bottles” for Djokovic

In its communication, waterdrop focuses primarily on the end of single-use plastic bottles in order to make a contribution to the environment. Novak Djokovic also underlines this goal, who says in a broadcast: “I believe that through our cooperation we are making a real contribution and that all plastic bottles on the [ATP World] Tour can abolish.”

Although plastic bottles can be recycled by going to the yellow bin and raw materials could be saved as a result, 91 percent worldwide do not make it to the recycling center. In Austria, the collection rate for collected PET bottles is at least 73 percent, according to “WasteWirtschonline.at”.

A deposit for PET bottles and aluminum cans will come in Austria in 2025. 25 cents per container will then be prescribed by law. In other EU countries, such as Germany, this deposit has existed for years.
