David Pichler from Oslip is Burgenland’s number one in tennis. The 26-year-old has been traveling internationally for eight years and is trying to work his way up the world rankings. Now he is facing a new season and, despite the difficult sporting and financial situation, his motivation is greater than ever.

David Pichler is currently training hard for the new season and for the first match. The preparation so far has not been ideal. He had been ill since the last tournament in early December and was only able to train properly again in January. But things are going better now, says Pichler.

“Financially quite challenging”

Even tennis pros have New Year’s resolutions. These can be expressed well in numbers or more precisely in ranking positions. “I’m currently in 480th place in singles and would of course like to get into the top 400, there are still a few points missing, so I’ll try to get as many points as possible at the Future tournaments at the beginning of the year,” explained Pichler .

Despite some challenges, Pichler is looking positively into the new season

The Osliper has been traveling internationally for eight years. The big breakthrough is a long time coming. The lower-level Futures and Challenger tournaments are his territory. Financially, that means a struggle to get through each year. He finances the season annually through games in the Italian, German and Austrian leagues. He mostly travels without a coach. A season costs the tennis pro around 50,000 euros.

“Tennis great passion”

That doesn’t change the fact that tennis remains a profession and vocation for David Pichler. Tennis is simply his passion, says Pichler. This is how the new tournament year begins for David Pichler in Cairo. He competes there in singles and doubles. The 26-year-old Osliper wants to play almost 40 tournaments this year.
