Darder is the main white-and-blue doubt

What a stomachache Espanyol had on Tuesday when Sergi Darder retired injured in extra time against Celta. The Balearic midfielder, key in Diego Martínez’s scheme and one of the flags of the club and the fans, will be a doubt until the last moment against Girona, although RAC1 advanced that he had no rupture in his quadriceps. The staff of the white-and-blue set hopes that Darder’s injury is not serious and trusts in his presence in the starting eleven to try to beat Girona for the first time in their duels at the RCDE Stadium.

In the Cup match against the Galicians, Darder was again vital, as almost always. Starting substitute, after the great wear and tear at the Spotify Camp Nou (1-1), he came on in the 74th minute to try to give his team the classification, who could not overcome a tightly controlled Celta. He obviously got it, scoring in the first half of extra time, picking up a dead ball inside the box. Darder, however, was unable to finish the game and left with a bruised left thigh. The positive part is that there is no break; the negative (and positive for Girona, if it happens), is that perhaps too little time has passed and he will not be fully recovered to face Míchel Sánchez’s men. “It would be too hasty to make an assessment, he has noticed some discomfort and we have been forced to change him. We will have to wait for the results and the sensations”, said Diego Martínez.

Who will definitely not be there is Vini Souza, expelled in front of Barça in the show starring Mateu Lahoz. Espanyol has tried in every possible way to be there, even presenting a resource with images overturned by the Competition Committee. According to the minutes, Vini was cautioned for “subjecting an opponent in the dispute for the ball, preventing with this action a promising attack”. The white-and-blues consider this to be false, because neither subject to an opponent (if so, consider the holds to be mutual), nor the attack was promising. The Committee’s no leaves the team with a sensitive loss, but the club could still ask the TAD for an injunction.
