The season concluded for Dallas with a loss at San Francisco. However, there are already several things to look at regarding the roster for the upcoming season. The end of the competitive year for the Cowboys came with a loss to the 49ers as it had happened twelve months before. This time it was a more even game in its development compared to that loss in the wild card round. One difference this time was that it came on divisional weekend, although the offense was disappointing as it was in that game.
The stats had the offense back as one of the best in the league in the regular season. However, it was the drive that failed when it couldn’t. The previous game had been perfect against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but Dallas failed to repeat in San Francisco scoring just 12 points.

On this side of the ball there was a great novelty with the growth of CeeDee Lamb. The Amari Cooper trade was a lousy trade for receiving only a fifth-round pick, but at least it served to give her wide receiver of the future more room. Lamb has already proven that he is the Cowboys’ WR1 for years to come.
There will be several decisions for management to make on this side of the ball. It was all too evident that he lacked talent at wide receivers as predicted since the offseason. The part of the linemen will be another sector that will require certain movements. Especially since it’s the area of the roster that most needs improvement to be a Super Bowl contender.
The special teams had a great season from the start. The addition of KaVontae Turpin was instrumental in giving the offense favorable positions to start each possession off of its big returns. Kicker Brett Maher had had a fantastic year leading up to the playoffs. However, the last two games will surely doom his stay. A free agent who will very possibly leave is in this part.
Who will be free agents in the Cowboys?
The offense will have Dalton Schultz ending his contract after playing under the franchise tag. The other big factor that won’t be linked is Tony Pollard. The runner will be unrestricted free agent, so any team could sign him. A broken tibia will drop his value a bit, but he could try to keep it.
The other point that will have free agents is the line. Connor McGovern will be one of them, although the continuity of Terence Steele is the most important. Steele will become a restricted free agent after making the team undrafted in 2020. His case is one that includes recovering from a season-ending knee injury.
Maher is the third member of the roster who undoubtedly stands out on the roster. The remaining are Jason Peters, Cooper Rush, Rico Dowdle, Noah Brown and TY Hilton on offense. In the other unit, long snappers both Jake McQuaide and Matt Overton will be free agents in a few months.
