Cuban judokas will carry out training bases in Europe

Havana, Jan 13 (ACN) The Cuban men’s and women’s teams will carry out training bases in Europe, with a three-month stay in Hungary and France, respectively, which will allow them to participate in several top-level tournaments.

As planned, the first to travel will be the disciples of Julio Alderete, head of the technical group, who will leave this Saturday for Hungarian soil, while Yordanis Arencibia’s pupils will do so on the 21st for France.

Amaury Mendive, methodologist of the National Judo Federation, confirmed today to the Cuban News Agency (ACN), that with the stays in Hungary and France it will be easier to comply with the critical path of 2023.

This year it will have several multiple events, especially the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador, from June 23 to July 8, and the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile, from October 20 to November 5, not to mention the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.

Rafael Manso, president and commissioner, announced that the first competitive commitment will be the Grand Slam in Paris (February 4-5), which will be followed by the also Grand Slam in Tel Aviv, Israel (March 16-18), Tashkent, Uzbekistan (March 3-5) and Tbilisi, Georgia (March 24-16).

In March they will also have a qualifying tournament in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, for the Salvadoran event, which will be followed, but in April, by the Varadero Open, Cuba, while the Senior World Championship is planned for May in Doha, Qatar. , and in November, the youth team of Coimbra, Portugal.

Judo also had a wide international calendar in the recently ended 2022, with a highlight for Andy Granda, in the more than 100 kilograms (kg), who was selected the best individual sports athlete in Cuba and now stands out among those chosen by the commission technique.

The Cuban super heavyweight, third in the world ranking (RM), won the gold medals at the World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan (November), and at the Pan American Championships in Oceania (September), a golden booty to which he added bronze medals at the European Open Tournament (April) and the Antalya Grand Slam (April).

In addition, Iván Silva (90 kg) and Idalis Ortiz (+78 kg) stand out, who appear in the fourth and twelfth places of the RM, respectively, and were included among the 10 best, while judo received mention among the disciplines most outstanding of the largest of the Antilles.
