BarcelonaThe ceremony of awarding the medals to the Barça players, who yesterday won the Spanish Super Cup, has caused a stir on social networks, where a video has circulated showing that no authority from the Spanish Football Federation to hand over the awards: they themselves had to hang the medals that prove they are the champions, standing in line and taking them from a table located on the stadium’s lawn.

The organization has responded to the criticism in a statement in which it assures that the protocol that was followed was appropriate and, moreover, the same that was carried out last year and the same for the Cup of the King However, the images contrast markedly with the same moment played by the men’s Barça a week ago, when they were also proclaimed champions of the Super Cup.

“In accordance with the award protocols of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), and taking into account the high number of institutional representatives as well as the infrastructure for access to the box office from the lawn of the stadium, the protocol department decided to activate the delivery ceremony in the box office in the same way as it is carried out in the Copa del Rey”, they explain in the statement: “Delivery of the cup to the captain of the team champion”, in this case, Marta Torrejón, and “handover of medals to the winning team on the grass/dressing room”.
However, on the networks, the images in which some players are seen placing the medals on each other and hugging have been compared to the medal presentation that did take place a week in Riyadh (Morocco) after the men’s Super Cup final. The deputy of ERC, Gabriel Rufián, added to the complaint by interpreting in a tweet the difference between the two ceremonies as a disdain for women’s football. Then it was the president of the RFEF, Luis Rubiales, who hung the decorations to the players of Barça, the champions, and to those of Real Madrid as runners-up. In the case of the Women’s Super Cup, Rubiales watched the medal presentation from the box, but did not participate.
