After a perfect week, during which she did not give up a set and lost an average of 4.2 games per match, the 18-year-old American Coco Gauff won the third title of her career by crushing the Spain’s Rebeka Masarova (6-1, 6-1) in the final of the Auckland tournament.
Surprise finalist thanks in particular to a victory against Sloane Stephens (6-3, 7-6 [5]) in the first round, Masarova, 130e world, missed the last step against a player five years her junior and yet much more experienced than her at this level.
The two players each got ten break points. But when one, Gauff, converted half, the other, Masarova, missed them all.
