Cicips and Khachanov ensure a meeting in the semi-finals

In the quarterfinals, fourth-ranked Cicips defeated the unseeded Czech tennis player Jirži Lehečka (ATP 71) with the result 6-3, 7-6 (7:2), 6-4.

Tsitsipas has won in his first six Grand Slam tournament quarterfinals, only Rod Laver, Patrick Rafter and Andre Agassi have such a record. In Australia, he has reached the semi-finals in four of the last five tournaments.

The 21-year-old Leheček had four losses in Grand Slam tournaments before the Australian Open, but in Melbourne the young Czech celebrated four victories in a row and reached the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Khachanov (ATP 20th) beat the American Sebastian Korda (ATP 31st) with the result 7-6 (7:5), 6-3, 3-0, the son of 1998 champion Petr Korda retiring in the third set.

Khachanov will play in the second “Grand Slam” semi-final in a row, having also reached this stage at last year’s US Open Championship.

In all five matches between Tsitsipas and Khachanov so far, the Greek has been superior.

The first “Grand Slam” tournament of the 2023 season will take place in Melbourne on the hard surface until Sunday.
