Causes of Indonesia Conceding Versions of Shin Tae-yong and Park Hang-seo

The Indonesian national team lost 0-2 to Vietnam in the second leg of the 2022 AFF Cup semifinals. Coach Shin Tae-yong explained why his team conceded a goal.

Indonesia conceded when the game was three minutes. A gastric cross from the middle of the field was directed behind the Indonesian defense and Nguyen Tien Linh managed to welcome it to beat goalkeeper Nadeo Argawinata. The second goal came two minutes after half-time through a corner kick situation.

“For the first goal, our goalkeeper Nadeo misread the situation, while for the second goal we lost focus on guarding the Vietnamese players,” Shin Tae-yong said in a post-match press conference.

Vietnam coach, Park Hang-seo, explained that this victory was obtained from the results of a thorough analysis of the first meeting. The first goal is proof of the success of the coaching team in finding Indonesia’s weaknesses.

“Tien Linh’s first goal came from our analysis, their high ball was quite weak. The Indonesian defenders lost their cool in several areas of defense,” said Park Hang-seo.

“We put two attackers in and put the ball in the far spots. Our attackers fought for the ball at these points. They were weak defensively in the backspace. We analyzed the opponent carefully. They usually played on fast counter-attacks,” he continued.
