In recent days, following a remote meeting involving all 30 registered clubs, the formula for the top national series was defined, which will begin in mid-April. The Itas Mutua Baseball Softball Club Rovigo breathes a sigh of relief, which in recent weeks had trembled due to a feared distortion of the formula that would have led to very long away games from the first phase: the structure of the championship instead remains similar to last season , even if the Polesine club aims to get some further adjustments.
There will be five groupings of six teams that will characterize the first part of the tournament. The rossoblù coached by Soto Diaz were included in Group B, together with Parma, Collecchio, Ronchi dei Legionari, Cervignano and Reggio Emilia. First rounds of poker on the weekend of 15 and 16 April. For Itas Mutua it will be a start within friendly walls: the Collecchio fort will arrive in via Vittorio Veneto, already faced last season in the initial phase. The group will be played with one-way matches, with two games a week. At present, the rossoblù will play only two home games but, by virtue of the role of top seed conquered at the end of last season, the club has asked Fibs to play a third and further round in Rovigo. At the end of the phase, on 13 May, the first two qualifiers from each group will access the Poule Scudetto, while the other three will participate in the Poule Relegation.
The ten teams promoted to the Poule Scudetto will face each other from 27 May divided into two groups: the first four of each group will play for the Scudetto in the subsequent playoffs, which this year include quarter-finals to the best of five games, semi-finals to the best of seven and, finally, the Italian Baseball Series 2023 which will close the season in the first half of September. The Poule Relegation will involve a total of twenty teams, divided into four groups of five, who will face each other in round-trip matches. The last of each group will be relegated to Serie B.
Just the Poule Relegation last year gave great satisfaction to Itas Mutua Rovigo. After a closed first phase behind Fortitudo Bologna and Collecchio, the rossoblùs won their salvation group and earned by a wide margin their permanence in the top flight and the title of top seed for 2023, also qualifying for the next Coppa Italia. For the new season, the minimum objective is naturally to confirm himself in the category, but the experience gained in the last two seasons in Serie A legitimizes him to raise the bar of ambitions. With two places available for access to the Poule Scudetto, one can also dream big, but everything will depend on the performance that the rossoblù roster will already have from the first spring matches. The favorites of the forecast are for Parma, finalist for the Scudetto in 2022. Also in view of the second phase of the season, Itas Mutua Rovigo has made a request to the Federation: to review the criteria for the composition of the groups in order to avoid pairings that force away matches particularly long and logistically complicated.
