Yeah, as a native English speaker (but not someone who watches basketball a lot), I have to admit that I have only heard this use of “brick” the few times I’ve been around basketball players. So perhaps “faire une brique” is equally as idiomatic to French basketball players– I would imagine basketball players anywhere in the world have seen American basketball, so maybe that niche use of the word has been translated directly.
