Brazilian judoka Baby hangs the bronze at the Almada Grand Prix

Brazil said goodbye to the Almada Judo Grand Prix (Portugal) with three medals. On Sunday (29), Rafael Silva, the Baby, won bronze in the category over 100 kilos by beating his compatriot João Cesarino. South Korean Kim Minjong was the weight champion.

Ranked ninth in the category by the International Judo Federation (IJF), Baby finished the Grand Prix with four wins in five bouts. In addition to Cesarino, he defeated Antoniou Giannis of Cypriot, Zhambyl Turgynaliyev of Kazakhstan and Youn Jaegu of South Korea. He only lost in the semifinals to the Georgian Saba Inaneishvili (who took the silver medal). Third place will give you 350 points in the world and Olympic rankings. The latter, launched on June 24, 2022, will define the classification for the 2024 Games in Paris (France).

In the previous two days of competition, the Brazilian judo made it to the podium twice. On Friday (27), Rafaela Silva won the silver medal in the category of up to 57 kilos. On Saturday (28), Gabriella Mantena was runner-up in the category of up to 63 kilos. Like Cesarino, Gabriella won the national selective last year, which accredited her for a position in the national team.
