Boston Red Sox | Payment of 75 million US dollars to Rafael Devers until 2043

(Boston) Third baseman Rafael Devers will receive a $75 million deferred payment until 2043 as part of his new deal with the Boston Red Sox, who recently signed him to an 11-season, $331 million pact .


The Red Sox finalized the 10-year, $313.5 million deal on Wednesday, which will cover the 2024-2033 period. This will succeed the pact of one year and 17.5 million concluded on January 3rd.

Devers’ long-term deal includes a $20 million signing bonus, and $5 million will be paid in February each year between 2023 and 2026.

He will pocket 27.5 million annually between 2024 and 2026, 31 million per year between 2027 and 2029, and 29 million each season between 2031 and 2033.

However, for each of these seasons, an amount of 7.5 million will be withheld for payment at a later date. This will be payable 10 years after the season during which it was received: half on the 1is February, and the other on November 30.

Devers would also get an assignment bonus of 2 million if he is traded, an amount paid by the team that would welcome him.

Devers was the American’s starting third baseman in the last two All-Star games. In 141 games last season, he batted .295 with 27 home runs, 42 doubles and 88 RBIs.

The Red Sox are hoping to bounce back from finishing last in the AL East Division last year at 78-84. They won 92 games in 2021, and had reached the All-American Championship Series.
