Benjamin Mendy Found Not Guilty in 6 Rape Cases

Manchester

Benjamin Mendy was declared clean in the six rape cases that involved him. The Manchester City player will undergo a retrial of the other two cases.

Mendy was charged with seven counts of rape and one count of attempted rape. The Frenchman is accused of committing these crimes at his residence between October 2018 and August 2021.

This case does not only involve Mendy, but also his partner, Louis Saha Mattuire. The 41-year-old man was charged with eight counts of rape and four sexual assaults.

Mendy and Mattuire have been on trial since August 10, 2022. Both were accused by 13 women of committing various sexual offences.

Launch BBC, Benjamin Mendy was found not guilty of six counts of rape, Friday (13/1/2023). Mattuire was also cleared of three counts of raping two teenagers.

A Chester Crown Court jury failed to reach a verdict on one count of rape and one of Mendy’s attempted rapes. A retrial is planned to be held to decide the case.

During the six-month trial, prosecutors told jurors that Mendy was a “sex predator”. Lawyers for Mendy and Mattuire found each allegation to be “fraught with inconsistencies and deficiencies”.

Mendy’s lawyers are pleased his client has been acquitted of six counts of rape. He hopes that a retrial can clear the name of the former AS Monaco on two other charges.

Benjamin Mendy was already suspended for Manchester City in August 2021 after being charged with rape. The Citizens did not want to comment further on the case that ensnared the players.
