Bayer Leverkusen: 1st home game for DFB director Völler: “I’m sitting in my seat” | Sports

Of course, the new director of the national team cannot be absent from the top game in the league.

For Rudi Völler (62), the game between Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund will be his first home game since joining the DFB.

Völler says to BILD: “I’m commuting a lot at the moment, I didn’t see the game against Bochum live on site. Sunday will be the first game for me to watch in the stadium in my new role. But of course I will also be in many other Bundesliga arenas in the coming weeks to exchange ideas with the club managers there.

What will it be like for Völler, who has given up his duties on the Shareholders’ Committee and as Bayer 04 ambassador during his DFB tenure, when he enters the BayArena?

“I will sit in my normal seat,” clarifies the 1990 world champion, “the DFB is now my employer, for whom I will use everything I have. But of course everyone knows about the constellation that I will come back to Leverkusen at some point.”

And Völler emphasized: “It would be hypocritical if I didn’t stand by Bayer 04, my heart is also here. Everyone can understand that, Aki Watzke as DFB Vice President also wants his BVB to win.

You can feel Völler’s anticipation for the new task, but also for the west hit: “I’m really looking forward to two teams that are working very well again. In recent years, both teams have always promoted football in direct duels. I hope for a wonderful top game.”

What Völler should be particularly happy about: striker Patrik Schick (27), for whom Rudi fought particularly hard as a Bayer maker, is about to return to the squad after weeks of groin problems. The Czech was finally able to train with the team again on Friday.
