Basketball – EuroLeague: Munich wins in defending champion Istanbul

Cologne (SID) – After the clear defeat against Ludwigsburg in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), Bayern Munich has set an exclamation point in the EuroLeague. At defending champion Anadolu Istanbul, Munich won 89:81 (36:40) and are still eyeing the play-offs. Bayern capitalized on a strong final quarter after chasing an Istanbul lead the entire game.

In coach Andrea Trinchieri’s team, which is now three wins adrift of play-off spots, Othello Hunter impressed with 18 points as the game’s top scorer. German international Tibor Pleiß contributed 11 points for Istanbul. Anadolu has won the title in the last two seasons but has to fight for the play-offs this season.

Last Sunday, Bayern failed in the BBL against the MHP giants Ludwigsburg (68:96). FCB is in third place behind the leading duo Alba Berlin and Telekom Baskets Bonn and is therefore living up to its own expectations in the national league.
