Barça held in check by Espanyol in a derby marked by three red cards in one minute

Three days after his 32nd birthday, Marcos Alonso opened the scoring for Barça with a header, following a corner (7th).

In the second half, Alonso committed a foul in the rectangle on Joselu. The latter was doing justice to himself from the penalty spot (73rd).

The match became nervous and referee Antonio Miguel Mateu Lahoz, who had broken the record for cards dealt in a World Cup match during Argentina / Netherlands, brandished three red cards to Jordi Alba (78th) as well as to Vinicius Souza Costa and Leandro Cabrera (80th) during the same action. But after VAR intervention, he withdrew the red from Cabrera. The match therefore ended ten against ten.

Robert Lewandowski missed the match point two minutes from time.

Barça, who remained on five straight wins, are joined at the top of La Liga, with 38 points, by Real Madrid, victorious 0-2 in Valladolid on Friday. Espanyol (13 points) is 16th with a point ahead of the first relegation player, Sevilla.
