Balcer remains in the Tampa Bay Lightning system

Balcers also ended up on the list of unprotected players in November, when he was waived by the Florida Panthers. The contract of the 25-year-old striker was taken over by the “Lightning” unit, in whose ranks he scored one goal in three matches.

After healing the injury, Balcers was loaned to the “Crunch” team, in whose ranks the Latvian scored two assists in six AHL games. Before being placed on the vulnerable list, the Lightning recalled him on loan.

He has a total of three goals, two assists and a negative -1 efficiency rating in 17 games this NHL season. In less than five NHL seasons, the Latvian hockey player has played 170 games in the ranks of the Ottawa Senators, San Jose Sharks, Panthers and Lightning, in which he has accumulated 62 (28+34) performance points.

The most productive season for the Latvian striker was the previous season, during which he collected 23 (11+12) points in 61 matches.

Balcer was selected by the San Jose Sharks with the 142nd pick in the 2015 draft, but in his first season in North America he played for the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League (WHL), where he was recognized as the best rookie of the WHL Western Conference. In 2018, he was involved in a large-scale exchange transaction, in which he was transferred from the Sharks to the Senators, but later the Latvian returned to the ranks of the San Jose team.
