The athletes travel to Calahorra to run the cross, in a day marked by the variety of modalities on the sports billboard
The weekend school sports card features a remarkable variety of options. Most are ‘veterans’, but badminton sneaks in for the first time this course among the signs.
Team sports resume their competitions this weekend to advance in the phase in which they had left it, except in the case of children’s basketball teams that are already starting a second phase. The rest of the categories –both in basketball, football, futsal, volleyball and handball– will advance in their calendar, but all those that have it divided into different phases, are already very close to the conclusion of the first part of the competition. .
In individual sports, the development is different, but this weekend there are quite a few modalities that return to the billboard and there is even one, badminton, that is released.
The sports center of the González Gallarza de Lardero school will be the setting, starting at 10:00 am, for the start of the season with the dispute of the first matches of the course. The juniors and the cadets will be in charge of inaugurating a campaign that includes the dispute of 13 days, all on the same stage and at the same time.
The campaign will conclude on May 14 and the name of the winners will be known.
Long before the outcome of the cross-country season will be reached, which this weekend makes a ‘stopover’ in Calahorra.
In a setting as traditional as the Cidacos park, the La Rioja Individual Cross Country Championship will be held this coming Sunday in the federated categories, but also the third day of the school competition.
The circuit is well known by athletes, it is not too demanding in terms of level changes, but it is fast, which can be a handicap for the little ones who do not know how to measure their strength. The wind can be one of the main adversaries of long-distance runners because when the test is held next to the river, a ‘corridor’ is formed that can make athletes noticeably uncomfortable.
Almost simultaneously with the celebration of the cross and not far from the Cidacos park, the third day of the table tennis competition will be held. The Youth Sports Center will host the matches of this discipline.
The bow and arrows
This coming Saturday a new day will be played, the second, of the latest modality that has been incorporated into the Sports Games. Archery, which a few weeks ago appeared for the first time in the history of La Rioja school sports, returns to the Eypos Club to celebrate a new scoring day there.
The ball will also register an important activity this coming weekend because if it will start the weekend with hand matches already on Friday at the Adarraga (6:15 p.m.), they will continue on Saturday in various venues: Titín III, Adarraga, Frontón Barberito de Baños and Municipal de Villamediana, all of them with the start of the meetings at 4:00 p.m. A little later (5:00 p.m.), those from Ezcaray will begin, which will serve to close the day, because on Sunday no matches have been scheduled on any stage.
In addition, the weekend’s offer is completed by the seventh day of the Sports Games swimming calendar as well as a new concentration for the little ones (youngest and prebenjamines) at the Albelda Fairgrounds.
