Alcaraz withdrew from the first grand slam of the year earlier in the week with a hamstring injury. Nadal ranks second in the ranking from ATP.
Iga Swiatek, number one in the world, was named on Wednesday as the first seed in the women’s draw. The Polish try to add the third major of hers in Australia, after being crowned at Roland Garros and at the United States Open.
