Academy shortstop HYL signs with Cleveland

Santo Domingo, RD.- With an impressive talent and in continuous development as a player with the five tools, the Dominican Welbyn Francisca, 16 years old, and who plays the shortstop, agreed this Sunday for one million 1,375 thousand dollars with the team of Major leagues, Cleveland Guardians.

The native of Villa Hermosa, in the La Romana province, developed since he was 11 years old by the HYL Baseball Academy, located in the Guerra municipality, in Santo Domingo, increases his agreement to about US$1,450 MM, thanks to the progressive bonus offered by Cleveland and the student scholarship.

“First I thank God, and we are proud of what we have been doing. I’ve been working since I was little to this point in my career. This is just the beginning, Major League Baseball is the goal,” said Welbyn Francisca after making an agreement with the Major League Baseball organization.

Harold Diplán, co-owner of HYL, assessed that “as for Welbyn’s conditions, we can define him from now on as a player with the five tools. He has all the conditions to play in the Major Leagues soon ”.

“Francisca stands out for her hitting, it is her plus tool, she is an innate hitter. He has all 5 tools, with great speed, occasional power and a powerful arm above the average”, highlighted Luis Batista, also co-owner of HYL, who added that the shortstop is nicknamed “Fósforo”, for his spark wherever he goes and his relationship with others, in addition to his dynamic game.

On his side, Elby Francisca, father of the new athlete, and who also played professionally, expressed his delight that Welbyn followed in his footsteps in baseball, described him as a focused and dedicated young man and, “I give glory to God for this, because without him we are nothing”.

Meanwhile, the mother of the speedy player, Wendy Gómez, thanked God and the Major League Baseball team for the opportunity that has been opened to her son.

Welbyn Francisca, who leads the start of the signing of players signed by the Cleveland Guardians, at the Academy headquarters, continues to study high school that is almost over, and like English.
