from metallica Holy Wrath at this point, it’s more of an internet meme than an actual album.

It was (and let’s be honest, it still is) a perfect storm of bad decisions, from the lame lyrics to the mediocre songwriting to… yes, that fucking snare drum.

At this point, some members of the group seem rather at peace with the fact that this will forever be the low point of their catalog as far as fans are concerned (and it’s generously discounted At Lulu’s existence altogether).

James Hetfield even went so far as to openly mock the record a few months ago during a concert:

“It’s from YOUR favorite album, Holy Wrath. Oh come on, it’s growing on you now. Just give it a little more time…you’ll get it. OK 8 more St. Anger songs, ready? I laugh!

It’s the little album of the POOR, who does so much bullshit. What do you think Holy Wrath? Don’t lie to me, man.

While Hetfield can clearly laugh it off, drummer Lars Ulrich still defends his much-maligned decision on the snare sound. Just a few years ago, he defended sonic slaughter on Eddie Trunk’s show, reiterating that:
