At qualifying level it is still another game, in which scoring is the most important thing, but a derby is always special. No matter where you look. Leaving aside the rivalry between Girona and Spanish, which is also a factor to consider, tomorrow’s duel will be characterized by many reunions. There is several familiar faces in both teams and therefore players who were once teammates will be rivals tomorrow night. The most outstanding case is that of David López, an icon of the Perico club who put an end to a long period marked in white-and-blue to enjoy football with Girona again. Under the orders of Míchel Sánchez, the center of Sant Cugat acknowledged having regained confidence to continue at one hundred percent in the First Division. In Montilivi, however, he is not the only one who has defended the Espanyol shirt. In the summer he accompanied him Angel Herrera, who last season was also in Cornellà on loan from Manchester City. What’s more, they played with it Bernardo Espinosaon loan from Girona in the 2019-20 season due to relegation to Segona, and Christian Stuanifor three consecutive years (2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15).

On the other side, Diego Martínez has players in the squad who have lived the day-to-day life of Montilivi. It is about Brian Olivánwho played for Girona in the 2019-20 season after reaching an agreement with Cadiz for his transfer (he currently has a contract with the parrots until 2025), and Pol Lozano, who, trained at Espanyol, last year made the most of his transfer to Girona being one of the protagonists of the promotion. Before facing the match, all six will surely have great moments and anecdotes going through their heads, but when the referee blows the whistle to start it will be another story. Everyone will look out for their own interests.

At the same time, there are a total of ten players from the Girona squad who have experienced what it means to win at the RCDE Stadium. Bernardo, Stuani, Juanpe Ramírez, (injured), Samu Saiz, Aleix Garcia, Ramon Terrats, Borja García, Yan Couto, Juan Carlos Martín and Santi Bueno have participated in one of the three triumphs that the white-and-red team has added to Cornellà
