World Cup 2022: Mbappé trouble between England and France | Sports

Who is to stop him?

On Saturday, England and France meet in the quarter-finals of the Winter Desert World Cup in Qatar on top of each other ( 8 p.m./ZDF and MagentaTV).

The man everyone is looking at: “Les Bleus” rocket Kylian Mbappé (23). His likely opponent in the European cracker, “Three Lions” right-back Kyle Walker (32), was now optimistic about his chances of eliminating Mbappé.

The Man City star earned a lot of malice for this …

Nine goals and three assists in a total of eleven World Cup games, five goals and two assists in this tournament alone – Kylian Mbappé is a force of nature who can hardly be stopped on the pitch. And that at just 23 years old.

Nonetheless, England defender Walker was optimistic about his ability to stop Mbappé. He said he has no plans to “roll out the red carpet” for him.

Walker further: “It’s my job to stop him. I’ve played against him many times. I will show him respect, but not too much. Mbappé is a great footballer but they have a lot more quality than that. We don’t play tennis, it’s not a one-on-one duel.”

He promptly received the snappy reply. France midfielder Youssouf Fofana (23/Monaco) reacted: “Hats off to him, if he can stop Kylian then that’s good for him. There are 19 other teams in the French league waiting for the answer.”

Fofana is then asked what Mbappé thinks of Walker’s statements: “Kylian is someone who doesn’t really read the press, I’m sorry.”

So far, the team of England head coach Gareth Southgate (52) has come through the tournament without any problems. The 6-2 win against Iran and the goalless draw against the USA were followed by two 3-0 victories over Wales and Senegal.

France also delivered strong performances. Only the 1-0 defeat in the last group game against Tunisia worried the fans for a while. However, it must be said: The team of coach Didier Deschamps (54) started with a B-Elf.

That certainly won’t happen against England…
