World Cup 2022: beaten by Cameroon in stoppage time, Brazil retains its first place

Brazil with a revamped squad (and Dani Alves as captain), lost by the smallest gap against Cameroon but secured first place in group G. To 39 years old, the former Catalan also becomes the oldest player to play a World Cup meeting with the Seleção.

Unsurprisingly, Brazil are largely dominating at the start of the game. Authors of ten shots in the first period, the South Americans struggle in the last gesture since they only fit three small attempts via Martinelli et Antony. In contrast, Fredthe same Martinelli, Dani Alves or again Rodrygo fail to find the cages of Devis Epassy. But the troops of Rigobert Song reacted well at the end of the first half via a very good cross header from Bryan Mbeumostrongly repelled by Ederson.

The African nation enter the second half with good intentions and close in on Ederson’s goal. But the men of Tite quickly rebalance the debates to continue on the same scenario of the first period.

Once again, the five-time world champions lack sharpness in the last gesture since Martinelli or even Military fail to deceive Epassy. At the end of the game, Aboubacar places a perfect header to offer a prestigious victory to Cameroon. An insufficient victory since at the same time, Switzerland beat Serbia to secure a place in the round of 16.

Despite the defeat, Brazil secure their first place and will challenge South Korea in the round of 16 while Switzerland will face Portugal. Serbia and Cameroon are the two eliminated from this group G.
