Exactly two months ago, Simone Giannelli became world champion with Italy, and now he has also won the Club World Cup with Perugia – against a very special opponent.

Giannelli played for his youth club Itas Trentino for twelve years before moving to Perugia in 2021. Now the 26-year-old South Tyrolean has won the final of the Club World Cup in Betim, Brazil, against Trento of all places. Perugia won the all-Italian final 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 27-25, 25-19).

The top team from Umbria was slow to get into the game, but then really turned it up and – driven by Giannelli – won three sets in a row. For Perugia it is the third victory in the third duel of the season with Trento (Supercup and Serie A) and at the same time the crowning of the best volleyball team in the world for the first time.

Giannelli best player of the tournament

The big star of the team, Bozner Giannelli, should be particularly happy about this. He was voted best player of the entire tournament at both the World Cup in September and now at the club competition in South America. He and his national team and club teammate Roberto Russo can therefore call themselves double world champions.

Giannelli has now – at just 26 years of age – clinched his second Club World Cup title (he won with Trento in 2018) and at the same time the ninth major trophy of his career. He is Italian Champion, Italian Cup Winner, Supercup Winner, CEV Cup Winner, World Club Champion, European Champion and World Champion.
