Wolves Get Christmas Presents from Atletico Madrid: New Striker

Wolverhampton

Wolverhampton Wanderers received a Christmas gift from Atletico Madrid. Yes, the Wolf Team just recruited Matheus Cunha.

Cunha has actually been an Atletico player since 2021. But since being bought for 40 million euros from Hertha Berlin in 2021, Cunha has failed to shine because he has only scored seven goals in 54 appearances in all competitions.

Cunha has not even scored a single goal this season from 17 appearances. He was also unable to compete with Alvaro Morata, Angel Correa, Joao Felix and Antoine Griezmann.

This made Cunha thrown out of the Brazil national team squad at the 2022 World Cup. Therefore, Cunha asked to leave and like tit for tat, Atletico made it happen.

After searching for interested clubs, Cunha finally officially accepted Wolverhampton’s proposal. The Premier League club officially borrowed Cunha as of January 1 with a permanent transfer obligation at the end of the season for £35 million.

“We just got another Christmas present,” Wolves said when announcing Cunha’s arrival via his Twitter account, Monday (26/12/2022) early morning WIB.

Cunha became Wolves’ first player under Julen Lopetegui as replacement manager for Bruno Lage. The 23-year-old player is expected to be a solution to the blunt Wolves attack line.

They have only made eight goals in 15 weeks, the worst among Premier League participants so they are now bottom with 10 points.

Since Raul Jimenez suffered a skull fracture injury, Wolves have lost their goal machine. Until now, Jimenez is still having a hard time returning to his best performance. Meanwhile Hwang Hee-chan, Goncalo Guedes, Pedro Neto, Daniel Podence, Adama Traore, Fabio Silva, and Diego Costa were also disappointing because they had only collected four goals in total!

Wolves actually have a new striker, Sasa Kalajdzic from VFB Stuttgart, but he was immediately sidelined for a long time after injuring his knee ligament in his debut match.
