There are currently more than ten wolves living in Limburg. Among them are two yearlings born in 2021 and nine cubs from this year. The run-down wolf is therefore one of these nine cubs. It is a female according to the INBO.
“It could well be that the animal was already exploring new horizons, but the traffic was not yet used to it and was run over as a result,” says Koen Van Muylem of INBO. “That’s hard to figure out. But luckily we already have genetic material from the cubs, so we can see which wolf it is exactly.” An autopsy on the cadaver will follow later this week.
