Will we see Remco Evenepoel in cyclocross just like Tadej Pogacar? Patrick Lefevere is clear

Two-time Tour winner Tadej Pogacar finished second in a cyclocross race in Ljubljana on Boxing Day. Isn’t Remco Evenepoel itching to try a trip to cyclo-cross? In There his boss Patrick Lefevere points out a difference with Pogacar, who made cycling his main occupation from the age of ten: “Remco started cycling too late”.

Remco Evenepoel already got the question in an Instagram live at the beginning of this month. Has he ever thought about it? for fun to ride a cyclocross? “Yes, but it’s not a big goal and I don’t think there are any opportunities to develop as a rider. The big dream on which I am now focused is winning the three Grand Tours”, Evenepoel said at the time.

His boss at Soudal-Quick Step, Patrick Lefevere, is asked the question in Humo in a double interview with Club Brugge CEO Vicent Mannaert: would Remco Evenepoel do well in the field?

“He can get through the mud thanks to his power, but he would drown in the technical zones. He started cycling too late for that. As a world champion he would be ridiculous,” says Lefevere.

Lefevere also talks about one of his acquisitions who can handle cyclocross, Tim Merlier. He believes that the 30-year-old sprinter who comes over from Alpecin-Deceuninck can still take steps with his team.

“Let’s just say there’s still work to be done. He can become an even better athlete,” says Lefevere.
