Very expensive by the way! Jordan sneakers raise nearly $300,000 at auction

New York, Dec 8 (EFE).- The first tennis model created by Nike for the NBA starmichael jordan, were sold for $189,000 (including buyer’s premium) during a home auction Christie’s.

Despite the high number, there was only one bid and the lot was placed below the range estimated by the auction house, which was between 200,000 and 300,000 dollars.

Another pair of 1985 Air Jordan 1s, in this case signed and likely worn by Jordan, sold for $107,100.

Sales were far from the record amounts paid in recent years for other shoes by the basketball legend: in 2020 Air Jordan 1S grossed $560,000 and in 2021 Nike Air Ships worn by Jordan in 1984 reached nearly $1.5 millions of dollars.

In total, seven pairs of Jordan sneakers were put up for sale at Christie’s auction, but several of them were left without a buyer, something that also happened with other items offered, including two other pairs of shoes worn by tennis player Serena Williams, for which it was expected to raise up to 15 thousand and 20 thousand dollars, respectively.

Nor did he find a buyer for a Los Angeles Lakers jersey worn in a game by the late Kobe Bryant and which was presented with an estimated price of between 100,000 and 150,000 dollars.

Some exclusive designs were also offered at the auction, such as several pairs of sneakers resulting from collaborations between Nike and Louis Vuitton and a chest designed by the designer Virgil Abloh – who was the artistic director of the French brand and who died in 2021 – sold for just over 100 thousand dollars.
