‘Ventspils’ loses in Pärnu; ‘Valmiera Glass’/’Vidzeme Augstskola’ LIBL gets its third victory

On Saturday, “Ventspils” experienced a failure in the “Pafbet” Latvian-Estonian Basketball League game in Pärnu, while in another match “Valmiera Glass”/”Vidzemes Augstskola” achieved their third success this season.

Ventspilnieki recognized the superiority of “Parnu Sadam” on the road with the result 75:81 (19:16, 14:29, 20:15, 22:21).

In the Ventspils team, Kristaps Mediss stood out with 16 scored points, while Linards Jaunzems had 14 points and seven rebounds. Tads Pazera was the top scorer for the home team with 25 points and six assists.

Ventspilnieki has a balance of 8-4 and ranks in the sixth position, while the Pärnu team is in the eighth place with four wins in nine matches.

On the other hand, Valmiera’s team defeated Tallinn’s “Kalev”/”Audentes” at home with a score of 91:77 (17:15, 25:18, 27:20, 22:24).

The home team’s success was forged by three basketball players who scored at least 20 points. Nick Salenik, who also had seven rebounds and four assists, and Walter Weaver scored 21 points, while Tervel Beck added 20 points.

In the visiting team, Stan Sock scored 16 points and had six assists, while Kristjan Kangur had a double-double with 15 points and ten assists.

“Valmiera Glass”/”Vidzemes Augstskola” is in 14th place with three wins in 11 played matches, while the Tallinn team is one position higher with three successes in ten matches.

In the meantime, the Ogres lost to Rapla’s Avis Utilitas with a score of 71:81 (15:26, 15:18, 28:20, 13:17).

“Ogri” was not saved from failure by Edgars Lasenbergs, who scored 21 points, but Kārlis Apsītis added 16 points and seven rebounds. Tyler Shamar Chies was the top scorer for the home team, who scored 25 points.

“Ogre” ranks ninth with five wins in 12 games, while Rapla’s team ranks seventh with eight wins and four losses.

Latvia is represented in the tournament by six teams – “VEF Rīga”, “Ventspils”, “Ogre”, “University of Latvia”, “Valmiera Glass”/”Vidzemes Augstskola” and “Liepāja”. Estonia is represented by nine teams – “Parnu Sadam”, “University of Tartu”/”Maks & Moorits”, Tallinn “Kalev”/”Cramo”, Tallinn “TalTech”, Rapla “Avis Utilitas”, Rakvere “Tarvas”, Tallinn ” Kalev”/”Audentes”, “Viimsi” and newcomer “Keila”. The Ukrainian team “Prometey” of Slobojansk also competes in the tournament. The Ukrainian team is participating in the LIBL competition for the first time.

The best men’s basketball clubs of Latvia and Estonia played in a joint championship for the first time in the 2019 season, when 15 teams participated. In the “Final 4” tournament, “Ventspils” basketball players became the first winners of the league.

Last year, “VEF Rīga” basketball players were crowned LIBL champions, who beat “Viimsi” in the decisive match, while “Parna Sadam” won bronze.
