Track cycling Olympic champion: Lisa Brennauer becomes a trainer

OOlympic champion Lisa Brennauer (34) throws herself into new tasks after the end of her active cycling career. From January 1, 2023, the gold medalist from Tokyo will strengthen the coaching team of the German Cyclists Association (BDR). In addition, Brennauer is responsible for the sporting management of a women’s cycle race in Stuttgart, which will be held for the first time on July 16, 2023.

At the BDR, the multiple track and road world champion should “discover the first sub-areas from the perspective of a trainer and be involved in measures,” said the association on Thursday. After Maximilian Levy (Juniors Kurzzeit Bahn) and Jan van Eijden (Elite Kurzzeit Bahn), Brennauer is the next top athlete to join the coaching staff of the BDR.

“It’s a challenge to accompany my sport from a different perspective and to support athletes in the best possible way,” said Brennauer: “I know the structures, I know the competitions and see this as a huge advantage over someone who comes from outside, even if I’m a trainer lack of experience so far.”

Brennauer ended her career after the European Championships in Munich in August. In November she successfully completed her training as an A trainer. Brennauer triumphed in the team pursuit in Tokyo in 2021 and also won gold at the World Cup twice. At the European Championships in Munich, she won with the team and took silver in the individual pursuit.
