Thiago Silva and his frustration after Brazil’s defeat: “As a player, I won’t be able to lift the Cup”

the captain of Brazil Thiago Silva, lamented that his laureate career as a defender is going to end without having won a World Cup, after the Brazilian defeat against Croatia on penalties (1-1, 4-2) this Friday in the quarterfinals of the World Cup in Qatar.

“Unfortunately as a player I will not be able to lift the Cup. Perhaps later in another function”said the 38-year-old central defender after the match played at the Education City stadium in Doha.

Silva, who has said that he would like to be a coach in the future, assured that no matter how painful the defeat is, Brazil must get up and move on.

“I am very proud of the boys, of what we did, but sadly (these results) are part of footballhe explained.

“It is difficult, I have already gone through some disappointments in my life (…) and when we lose something important that we have as a goal, it hurts a lot, but you have to try to raise your head and continue, there is no other alternative. I am a person who always gets up when he falls and this is not going to be the time that I will stay on the ground,” he said.

The captain assured that Brazil could have been more focused against the Russia-2018 runners-up, who tied the game in the final stretch of extra time and won on penalties.

“In football we are subject to conceding goals, regardless of who the opponent is. Croatia is a quality team. Maybe we could have been a little better focused. We are not used to receiving that kind of counterattacks. I think we got a little disorganized.”he claimed.

With the fall in the quarterfinals, Brazil will have to wait for the 2026 World Cup to fight once again for its sixth star.

It should be noted that this is the fifth consecutive orbital appointment in which the selected ‘carioca’ fails to be crowned champion. In Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014, Russia 2018 and now Qatar 2022, the Jules Rimet trophy has been elusive to the ‘canarinha’.
