The City Council, together with the Spanish and Andalusian Judo federations, advances in the preparations for the 50th Raúl Calvo Memorial

Cadiz, December 18, 2022. The Municipal Sports Institute (IMD) of the Cádiz City Council has started, together with the Spanish Judo Federation and the Andalusian Judo Federation, the preparatory meetings for the 50th edition of the Raúl Calvo Memorial, which will be held in the capital of Cádiz in 2023 .

After the first of these preparatory meetings with Carmen Calvo, who is a member of the board of directors of both the Spanish and Andalusian judo federations, the Councilor for Sports, José Ramón Páez, highlighted the “good harmony” that exists and the “great expectations” that are generated after the “success” of this year’s edition in the city, which “has been filled with activities that have involved a large part of society”.

Both Páez and Calvo have advanced that the intention is for “2023 to be the year of judo in Cádiz” taking into account that the Raúl Calvo Memorial celebrates such a significant milestone as its 50th anniversary.

It should be remembered that this international tournament returned to Cádiz this 2022 after several years of absence, setting the City Council as an objective “to do everything possible so that he does not leave Cádiz, which is his home”.

The objective for 2023 is to increase in quantity and over time the activities associated with the Raúl Calvo Memorial international tournament, which in the last edition materialized in judo exhibitions, seminars, revitalization activities in different squares of the city, actions of promotion with local clubs, as well as activities aimed at both schoolchildren and the elderly through the IMD Health Club.

In other words, beyond the sports competition, the objective is to “continue opening it up to the public and continue deepening the value of judo as a tool to prevent falls, to prevent bullying and to promote gender equality in sport” .

In this regard, it should be noted that the Raúl Calvo Memorial has always been recognized and valued by the large number of countries that have participated in its various editions, and is also a pioneer when it comes to promoting the participation of women in sport, since in This competition for teams, women and men, compete from the beginning on equal terms, with the same rules and requirements.
