Syntainics MBC: Veteran Tremmell Darden announces retirement

Leading player Tremmel Darden from Syntainics MBC in Weißenfels will most likely end his basketball career after the season. “I’m 95 percent sure,” said the oldest Bundesliga professional at 41 to the “Mitteldeutsche Zeitung” (Friday edition). There is a constellation in which the American would consider playing for another year or two: “But then it really has to happen that way.” In this scenario, he would stand on the court for a club with his current 16-year-old son.

Lack of respect in the past as a motivation

The greatest motivation for still being able to perform at the highest level in old age lies in the past. “I have the feeling that in the course of my career I haven’t received the respect I deserved. That still drives me. Just like my love for the game,” said the 1.94-meter-tall professional. With an average of 11.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, Darden is one of the top performers of the MBC, which has had little to do with relegation so far this season.

Darden: “We want to make the playoffs”

“He’s our leader,” said manager Martin Geissler. “How the rest of the season goes will largely depend on him and his physical condition.” Darden himself is aiming high, confident MBC can upset this season. “We’re moving in the right direction and want to make the playoffs,” said the veteran.

Darden only returned to Weißenfels in the summer of this year. He had already played for the “Wolves” from 2018 to 2020, who will play their last Bundesliga game of the year against Darden’s former club Ludwigsburg on Friday evening (December 30th, 2022). The MBC is currently in twelfth place in the BBL. Last matchday there was a clear bankruptcy against Alba Berlin.
