Swimming World Cup on the short course: Marius Kusch wins bronze

Marius Kusch gave the German swimmers the next medal at the short course world championships in Melbourne. The 2019 European short course champion secured bronze in the final over 100 meters butterfly in 49.12 seconds behind Chad le Clos (South Africa/48.59) and Ilya Kharun (Canada/49.03). The 29-year-old Kusch had previously qualified with the men’s relay for the final over 4×100 m individual medley (11.19 a.m./CET).

Although Anna Elendt and Angelina Köhler each missed out on the podium on their courses, both of them once again broke their own German short course records, which they had only set in the semi-finals. Elendt, third in the 100m breaststroke, finished fifth in the 50m in 29.30 seconds, well short of her previous best of 29.52 seconds. Koehler finished fourth in the 100 meter butterfly in 56.20 seconds, the day before she had clocked in at 56.23 seconds.

The German Swimming Association (DSV) traveled to Australia with eight athletes. Open water Olympic champion Florian Wellbrock as well as Isabel Gose and Lukas Märtens (all from Magdeburg) were absent.
