Swimmers Bobrov and Baikova modestly at the world championship

On the second day of the World Swimming Championships, Latvian athletes Daniils Bobrovs and Arina Baikova (pictured), competing in the 100-meter breaststroke and 100-meter freestyle, respectively, could not come close to their best results and took the fifth and tenth places.

In the 100-meter breaststroke preliminary race, Bobrov reached the finish line after one minute and 1.02 seconds, taking 46th place in the competition of 60 athletes. 16 athletes who swam faster than 57.88 seconds qualified for the semi-finals. Bobrov’s best result at this distance is 0.89 seconds faster. In the continuation of the championship, Bobrov is scheduled to start at twice the longer distance, which is his main discipline.

Meanwhile, Baikova’s first start at the World Championship turned out to be unsuccessful – in the 100-meter freestyle, the athlete finished in 58.27 seconds, which is almost three seconds worse than her personal record for this distance. In the freestyle, 63 participants went to the start, but the last athlete qualified for the semi-finals, who reached the finish line after 53.32 seconds. Baikova took the 45th position in total.

Baikova is scheduled to compete in the 100-meter individual medley tomorrow, while Đirts Feldbergs, who achieved a new personal record in 100 meters on the first day of the championship, will compete in the 50-meter backstroke tomorrow

At the World Swimming Championship, Latvia is represented by Ęirts Feldbergs, Daniils Bobrovs, Kristaps Miķelsons and Arina Baikova.

The athletes of the Latvian national team are accompanied at this championship by coach Germans Jakubovskis and Aļona Fokina, who is the head of the delegation.
