Swanson comes to the Cubs on a seven-year deal

CHICAGO._ The free agent shortstop Dansby Swanson is heading to the dogs. The shortstop reached a seven-year, $177 million deal with Chicagowith a deal that includes a clause to veto any changes, sources told MLB.com’s Jordan Bastian.

Since the season ended Atlanta Braves, the main question mark for the club was the fate of Swanson. There was some hope of a reunion between the two parties, but it is now clear that this will not be the case.

The 28-year-old shortstop was in an excellent position to capitalize on a contract on the open market after ranking second among all players at his position with a FanGraphs 6.4 WAR in 2022, trailing only Francisco. Mets’ Lindor (6.8).

Swanson’s offense has improved considerably over the past two seasons, establishing himself as one of the best players at his position. He hit a career-high 27 home runs in 2021 and ranked fourth among all major league shortstops with 25 guns last year.
