Solidarity, original, handmade… This is the calendars for 2023 ‘made in’ Aragón

Without a doubt, it is one of the fundamental elements that is almost never lacking in any home. With the arrival of the last days of the year, who more and who less is already looking for their annual calendar. In Aragón we have several alternatives of the most curious almanacs. One of the longest-lived is that of the protector Claw. “We started doing it more than a decade ago as an alternative to raise money to cover part of our expenses and, above all, to make ourselves known”recognizes Irene Gonzalvo, president.

They make two types of calendar. One on the wall, with dogs for adoption; and another table, with cats: “We have made 850 copies, the price is 10 euros in the first case and 5 in the second.” Also, their almanacs travel far, since they have reached Madrid, Tarragona, Córdoba or Holland, where two handy adopters reside. Among its protagonists we find Tom Thumb, Baguira or Imán, felines in search of a new family; or the dogs Rubia, Troya, Tilo or the brothers Momo and Héctor: “They are all looking for a home in which to feel like one more”.

This calendar can be purchased through its website or at points of sale concrete. “In December, on the 10th we will be at the Augusta Shopping Center and on the 17th and 18th, in Grancasa,” he recalls.

Another of the fixed ones every year is that of Amibil, the Bílbilis de Calatayud Association for the Disabled, which they have been doing for 11 years. With a circulation of 1,500 copies, the almanac is sold in more than 40 collaborating establishments in the city and the region.

“It was created with the purpose of making intellectual disability visible, especially focusing on the abilities of the group, instead of its limitations. This year the theme chosen has been inclusive sport”, says Lucrecia Jurado, Manager of Amibil. Among its pages we see scenes of golf, hiking, swimming, petanque or karate, as well as athletes such as the badminton player Pablo Abián, the triathlete Álvaro López, the athlete José Antonio Mayoral, the tennis player José Manuel Molina or the soccer player Eduardo Mingotes.

“They are all renowned athletes with an important career not only at the regional level, but also at the international level in many cases,” he highlights. That’s why, the motto chosen this year is ‘With inclusive sport, we all win’. Its price is 5 euros.

As it could not be otherwise, the Zaragoza company Frutos Secos el Rincón once again launched its solidarity calendar, this year with the Once Foundation for the Care of People with Deafblindness (FOAPS) as the protagonist. “Its objective is to promote the development of programs aimed at meeting the specific needs of people with deafblindnessto seek social and labor integration and improve the quality of life of this group”, explains Francisco Rodríguez, director of Marketing and Communication at El Rincón.

In addition, its pages include, month by month, all those festivities in which a sweet cannot be missing on our table, such as San Jorge, Santa Águeda, the Pilar or Christmas festivities. “We have made 8,000 copies, the price is the will, and they can be purchased in the 70 El Rincón stores in Zaragoza, Huesca and Madrid,” adds Rodríguez.

Another of the almanacs that do not fail is the Atades calendar, with users, workers and Aragonese companies that make their daily work a reality as protagonists: “It is the reflection of the common work in which all of them have collaborated to build the 12 months, those of the 60th anniversary of Atades, which promote the future of the entity”, they explain. There are two formats, wall and table, at 6 euros and 5 euros respectively, and can be purchased at the entity’s headquarters – Calle Octavio de Toledo, 2– and in the Espacio Garden – Calle de Clara Campoamor, 25–. The proceeds will go to inclusive projects of the Aragonese Guardianship Association for Intellectual Disability.

No, this is not a calendar

Although it is announced as such on the cover, as explained by one of its creators, the Huesca gastronome Claudia Polo, better known for her alter ego on networks, ‘Soul in The Kitchen’, this is not a calendar. However, it is an element that should not be missing in the kitchens of stove lovers. “Together with the artist Maiky Maik We have created an alternative featuring seasonal products according to the seasons”reports.

That is, there are no days, no important dates, no saints or holidays; but those fruits and vegetables that, month by month, cannot be missing from our pantry. “It’s a kitchen calendar, because the kitchen is where it makes sense to have a calendar. So actually this is a calendar, just not one to use”, adds the creator. There are 12 illustrated sheets printed in risography on recycled paper to which a selection of more than 30 seasonal recipes is attached in a ‘ digital ebook.
