BDuring the soccer World Cup in Qatar last Saturday, there was a fatal accident in the Lusail World Cup stadium. As the Qatari organizers confirmed on Wednesday, a security guard had fallen badly there.
After receiving immediate medical attention, he was taken to the intensive care unit of the Hamad Medical Hospital in Doha, but died there “despite efforts” on Tuesday. According to official information, it is said to have been the fourth death in connection with the World Cup.
The tournament organizers announced an immediate investigation into how the unspecified fall happened. In addition, they promised to pay the family of the deceased any outstanding wages and taxes.
According to media reports, however, several thousand workers have died on Qatari construction sites since the 2010 World Cup was awarded.
