Saint-Amand-Montrond athletes and volunteers rewarded by the City

It was a tradition, every year, at the end of the year: the municipality of Saint-Amand-Montrond honored the local athletes who had obtained results at the minimum departmental level. Interrupted for the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this tradition returned on Friday to the Pyramid of Crafts.

A first for the mayor, Emmanuel Riotte, elected in March 2020, who had not been able, until then, to preside over this ceremony.

For this return, the will of the new municipal team was to propose a more sober and less long organization. Planned not to exceed two hours, the ceremony lasted 1h30, to the satisfaction of all the actors, whether sportsmen, volunteers or organizers.

“Discretion”

The wish was also to reward athletes, but also volunteers who work in the shadows and who allow the thirty-six sports associations, out of the one hundred and thirty that make up the municipality, to function. Only half of them responded to the invitation, which represents 1,500 licensees.

The recipients were invited to come on stage at the Théâtre de la Pyramide to be introduced, receive their awards and pose for a photo. Two interludes allowed to attend demonstrations of Zumba.

Among the athletes who have distinguished themselves on the national or even international level, the high school students of the cycling division, Camille Charret (twice third in the French track championship, in the American and in the points race), Florian Gaillard and Gabin Ducournau, third in the French road team time trial championship, were distinguished, as was Alexandre Carlino, third in the French adapted sport archery championship, the two men’s and women’s gymnastics teams, respectively third and fifth nationally in their category, or Cléa Soudry and Gwendoline Brun, bronze medalists at the French body karate cup.

Of the seventy called, fifteen are volunteers or coaches.
To close the evening, the city’s super trophy, which rewards a sports association for its influence, was awarded to the Pétanque d’or, chaired by Rémi Bollé.

Jean-Claude Launay, deputy mayor in charge of finance and sports, justified this choice by highlighting “the discretion of this association which, in particular, organized, in 2022, no less than seven tournaments. They brought together, each time, more than a hundred competitors.

During this ceremony, the mayor did not fail to address the issue of soaring energy costs. “The City’s energy bill this year amounts to 1.24 million euros against 846,000 euros in 2020, he recalled. For 2023, we anticipate an expenditure of 1.667 million euros. We are now asking all users of municipal facilities to be vigilant with regard to heating and lighting. »

Terre de Jeux 2024 label

Emmanuel Riotte also announced the creation by the community of a new means of communication: a Facebook page exclusively reserved for Saint-Amandoise associations called “Saint-Amand-Montrond: le coin des assos”.

On the other hand, Saint-Amand-Montrond has just been labeled Terre de Jeux 2024. In this context, the idea of elected officials is “to bring together municipal services and associations to organize events to highlight the disciplines sports and the clubs that wear them.
