Roger Federer tells funny Wimbledon anecdote

Roger Federer shared a funny Wimbledon anecdote. Two weeks ago, the Swiss tennis icon was denied entry to her “living room”.

Federer traveled to London to see a doctor for a second opinion on his knee injury. Then the 40-year-old spontaneously wanted to stop by the Wimbledon clubhouse. The Basel native said this on the show “The Daily Show” by US show host Trevor Noah.

The problem: FedEx, which is automatically a member as an eight-time Wimbledon champion, had forgotten his ID – and the steward at the entrance actually had no idea who was standing in front of her.

“Yes, but you have to be a member,” the woman replied to Federer’s question as to whether he could come in here and refused him access. “When I’m usually here, I play. Now I’m here for the first time when the tournament isn’t running. And I don’t know where I’m going,” Federer explained to the woman and, according to his own statements, was already slightly panicking.

“I’ve won this tournament eight times. Please believe me, I’m a member,” pleaded the 20-time Grand Slam champion. But the steward couldn’t be persuaded.

Federer got in the car and tried his luck at the second entrance. There he was recognized immediately and of course let in without a membership card. “I then drank tea for an hour with the other members present,” said the Maestro.

Federer triumphed in Wimbledon for the first time in 2003. After five wins in a row, he won the grass tournament in 2009, 2012 and 2017. In September he ended his unique career.
