PSV won a two-hour exhibition match against Sassuolo in Marbella on Saturday. The team of coach Ruud van Nistelrooij overcame a deficit against the number fifteen of the Serie A: 2-1. FC Utrecht has lost the first exhibition game since the departure of Henk Fraser, with the Swiss Servette FC: 1-0.
Sassuolo had the better of the game in Spain in the first part of the match against PSV. That resulted in the opening goal just before the break, a striking header from midfielder Davide Frattesi.
Anwar El Ghazi brought PSV back into the game with a nice bang in the cross. Johan Bakayoko decided the game in Eindhoven’s favour. The attacker was the end station of a fast attack: 2-1. The team from Eindhoven were already too strong for the Polish Raków Czestochowa in a closed exhibition game last week: 4-2.
PSV will stay in Spain until December 23. On December 30, the team will play an exhibition match against AC Milan in the Philips Stadium. Orange internationals Cody Gakpo, Luuk de Jong and Xavi Simons will join the selection after the training camp.
PSV will start the second half of the season on January 7 with a home game against Sparta Rotterdam. Three days later, the two teams play against each other in the second round of the KNVB Cup.

Utrecht down without departed Fraser
FC Utrecht lost through their own actions against Servette FC, which plays at the highest level in Switzerland. Sander van de Streek worked the ball behind his own goalkeeper Vasilios Barkas after almost half an hour.
This brings an end to a very turbulent week for FC Utrecht. At the Domstedelingen, trainer Fraser left on Wednesday after grabbing Amin Younes by the throat during a training session a few days earlier.
The trainer did that after Younes had complained to assistant coach Urby Emanuelson about a questionable goal. Emanuelson approved the hit, much to Younes’ dismay. “He is Surinamese. That’s why you don’t whistle,” Younes then said. Emanuelson and Fraser have a Surinamese background.
Fraser denied talking to the NOS that Younes’ comment sent him over the boil. “The group worked really hard for two weeks. That was really impressive to me. One person disrupted that process,” he said. For the time being, assistant coach Aleksandar Rankovic does the honors at Utrecht.
Low-flyer FC Emmen was surprisingly too strong for mid-engine NEC in Estepona, Spain. The Drenthians won 3-2. The final score had already been reached at halftime. FC Groningen won 3-2 against the French FC Metz, while Sparta Rotterdam was 3-1 too strong for the Italian Spezia.
