National Basketball Association (NBA) Washington “Wizards” player Kristaps Porzingis made his comments after one of the team’s training sessions. The Latvian explained the reasons why he manages to get to the free throw line more often this season.

So far this season, Porzingis has stepped on the free throw line 6.8 times on average, which is the best indicator in the “Wizards” team. Also at the end of the previous season, when he joined the Washington team, the Liepaja man made such number of free throws. Prior to that, in three seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, the Latvian averaged 5.0, 3.2 and 5.0 free throws per game, respectively.

“I don’t remember the last time when everyone participated in our training,” admitted Porzingis. “Deni Avdija is still working on her full recovery, but today was a good training session. We tried some new things and new lineups. I think we looked good enough. At the beginning of the training, I felt that my thumb was a little out of place or something, but it shouldn’t be anything serious.”

Porzingis was asked why he thinks he is taking the most free throws of his career this season. “I think that I have started to play more offensively with my back to the basket,” revealed the basketball player. “I think I have learned better to provoke remarks. I know it’s not the prettiest thing to see on the basketball court, but it’s effective. A free throw is the most effective shot you can get. Now I know how to use myself in such situations, and I also know how to create them. Coaches also love when you can get free throws because it’s one of the most effective things you can do on offense.

The Latvian basketball player averaged 21.9 points, nine rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.5 blocked shots this season.
