In Antwerp, the Moroccan celebrations after the victory at the World Cup got out of hand. Twenty people were arrested, partly because a police station was attacked at Kiel.

After the end of the Morocco-Spain match, mainly on the Turnhoutsebaan and the Sint-Bernardsesteenweg, several thousand people, mainly young people, took to the streets again. Community authority figures, as after the previous victory, formed a human chain to keep the groups together and discourage any rioters. Youth workers also contributed.

The police say they found that a lot of fireworks were being fired, and sometimes in a dangerous horizontal way. The atmosphere also became grimmer on the Kiel after 8 p.m. “Some seemed to want to let off steam at the police station on Sint-Bernardsesteenweg,” says police spokesman Wouter Bruyns. “There were also projectiles thrown at the office and our people, so a push back was necessary.”

In the end, about twenty people were arrested administratively and two judicially. At the Turnhoutsebaan, a 15-year-old was caught trying to set fire to a garbage can, and a person was also caught with a stun gun in his pocket.
