Yutaka Takagi talks about the active draft part 2

(Part 1: Problems of active drafts. Players’ feelings, doubts about the rule “You must get at least one” >>)

The “Active Draft”, the first attempt in the baseball world, will be held on December 9th. The list of eligible players, which closed on December 2nd, has not been made public, but it will be interesting to see what players are on the shortlist. In the second part of the interview with Yutaka Takagi, we asked about players who are likely to expand their playing field by transferring to other teams.

DeNA’s Shigeya Hosokawa (left) and Softbank’s Rei Takahashi, who have been struggling for the past few years.

――In the current draft, we are aiming to revitalize the transfer of players who do not have the opportunity to play, but I would like to hear from fielders about players who seem to have a chance to play in other teams.

Yutaka Takagi (hereafter, Takagi) For example, DeNA’s Seiya Hosokawa is an outfielder with hidden slugging power, but I think DeNA’s outfielders have a lot of layers, so I don’t think he will play much. His defense is a bit difficult, and his batting stability is lacking, but if he continues to use him in games and gets used to it, he has a decent amount of power, and I think he will show his power.

With Keita Sano on the left, Masashi Kuwabara on the center, (Tyler) Austin on the right, and Taishi Ota on the right, it’s not easy to get a turn. If you let them out of the team, the possibilities will expand.

――In the current situation, which team do you think you can easily fit into?

Takagi: I think Lotte, which lacks slugging power, is good. Rakuten also has few right-handed hitters, so it might be good. Since left-handed hitters make up the majority of the starting line-up, there should be a high demand for right-handed hitters with hidden slugging power.

――While there is a certain amount of achievements or potential, is it a candidate for a player who overlaps the position?

Takagi That’s right. Also, Kento Itohara is no longer heard of as the new director of Shofu Okada. Converting Takumu Nakano from shortstop to second, having Seiya Kinami and Ryuhei Obata compete for the shortstop, and acquiring Ryo Watanabe in the second in a trade with Nippon-Ham…all sorts of things. When I think about it, I don’t think Itohara will have many chances next season, so I think it’s okay to give them chances with other teams.
