A groin strain forces Devin Booker to take a long break. As the Phoenix Suns officially announced on Wednesday, the All-Star will be out for at least four weeks. Then it should be re-examined.
Booker has been sidelined in six of the past nine Suns games and attempted a comeback on Christmas Day. In the narrow defeat against the Denver Nuggets, however, he was only four minutes on the floor before he couldn’t go any further.
He then returned to Phoenix, where more detailed examinations were carried out and a diagnosis of a groin strain was made. The 26-year-old will miss at least 15 games, possibly even more.
“I’m actually grateful that it’s nothing worse,” said head coach Monty Williams before the guest appearance in Washington on Thursday night. “It’s the nature of a player who works so hard and gives everything. That kind of thing happens from time to time.” Booker’s brief return in the Christmas Game didn’t make things worse, Williams said.
In the current season, Booker has a career-high 27.1 points per game, in addition he averages 5.6 assists and 4.6 rebounds with shooting rates of 47.7 percent from the field and 37.0 percent from distance .
Phoenix is currently having to cope with some bad luck with injuries, in addition to Booker, Cameron Johnson (meniscus surgery) and Cameron Payne (foot injury) have been missing for some time. Chris Paul has also missed 14 games in 2022/23. The Suns are fifth in the Western Conference with a 20-15 record.
