DALLAS: The only known photo that US actress Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962) dedicated to her short-term husband Joe DiMaggio has been auctioned in the US for $ 300,000. This is more than a photo of Monroe has ever brought in at an auction, said the auction house Heritage in Dallas, Texas on Friday.

The picture shows only Monroe’s upper body lying down, wearing a luxurious strapless dress and jewellery. “I love you, Joe, Marilyn,” says the photo. The auction house did not initially say who bought the picture.

DiMaggio (1914-1999) was a baseball star for the New York Yankees. DiMaggio and Monroe married in 1954, but the marriage lasted just under a year.
