No more white for players at Wimbledon

Tennis players will no longer be required to wear all white at the Wimbledon tournament.

Since 1963, all participants in this Grand Slam tournament had to be dressed entirely in white.

But this tradition, to which the organizers held firmly, did not satisfy the players.

White is pretty, it stands out well on the ground… but it stains, too.

And players who were menstruating at the time of the tournament were anxious about a minor accident.

Serena Williams, Alicia Barnett, Yuriko Miyazaki and Zheng Qinwen had made it known, and the reception to their grievances had hardly been warm. But everything changes…

The All England Tennis and Croquet Club, which runs the tournament, has announced that the shorts under the skirt could be dark in colour.

As for men, they will stick to white.

“We hope these adjustments will help players focus solely on their performance by removing a potential source of anxiety,” London Grand Slam Tournament Director Sally Bolton said in a statement.
