No black hole in football, there’s the Croky Cup: tonight Antwerp-Standard, tomorrow Genk-Anderlecht | Croky Cup

The Challenger Pro League clubs continued to play during the World Cup (their winter break is from 19/12 to 19/1), but our first division teams started their World Cup break after the weekend of 13 November.

That Sunday evening, November 13, on the 17th match day in the Jupiler Pro League, leader Genk won 0-2 at Anderlecht. That meant 30 out of 30 for Genk and it was the first defeat for RSCA interim coach Robin Veldman.

And let those two clubs now also form the top poster in the 1/8th finals of the Belgian Cup: Genk-Anderlecht on Wednesday at 8.45 pm. That will be the first match of Brian Riemer, the real successor to Felice Mazzu as coach of Anderlecht.

Today there are 5 cup matches. For example, cup holder AA Gent will receive Cercle Brugge, the squatter between Antwerp and Standard, which you can watch at 8:45 p.m. on Canvas and with a live stream.

There are 3 more matches on Wednesday, including Club Brugge-STVV. Deinze is the only non-1A team, the team from 1B gets a visit from Zulte Waregem.

The quarterfinals (also in 1 game) will follow in the midweek of January 10-12, the semifinals are with back and forth matches on February 1-2 and March 1-2, both also during the week. The cup final is on the weekend of May 1. These are the slots for the matches, the exact dates and times have yet to be determined.

After the midweek cup football, we will start with Christmas football. Although there will be no games on Saturday and Sunday of the Christmas weekend, but on Friday 23, Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 December.

On Friday, the basement duel from Wallonia Eupen-Seraing kicks off the 18th match day, later in the evening there is the Gent-Standard poster.

Club Brugge will receive OHL on Christmas Day, Union-Oostende is a reissue of the 1/8th final of the cup 6 days before.

Charleroi-Anderlecht closes the Boxing Day. The first assignment of Mazzu, who has returned as coach of Charleroi, will be a reunion with Anderlecht.

After those 2 football appointments, the stadiums will close again for the turn of the year. In the weekend of January 8, the 19th match day kicks off the football year again with, among others, the top players Antwerp-Gent, Genk-Club Bruges and Anderlecht-Union.
